Definitions:
Pole — defined by its particular structural installation. If the pole is set with the butt
(large end) in the ground, such as a utility pole or barn pole, it is referred to as a pole.
Piling — also defined by its installation. Pilings are driven into the ground with the tip
(small end) first.
When treated, posts are excellent materials for outdoor use such as fencing,
stables, stakes, and small buildings. Larger posts are often called Solid Structural
Rounds (SSRs) and are used for interior and exterior columns and beams.
